What is a Companies House officer record?

Every director, secretary, or other officer of a UK limited company must be registered at Companies House. The officer record shows all companies a person has been associated with, their role, dates of appointment and resignation, and the current status of each company. This is a matter of public record under the Companies Act 2006.

What is a Vetted Officer Score?

The Vetted Officer Score (0–100) is an automated rating based on administrative patterns from public Companies House data. It considers factors such as how long the officer has served, the proportion of dissolved vs active companies, and the overall breadth of appointments. It is not a character reference, credit check, or measure of professional competence.

What does it mean if a director has many dissolved companies?

Company dissolution is common and not in itself evidence of wrongdoing. Many entrepreneurs start and close multiple businesses over their careers. However, a high rate of dissolved companies — especially those dissolved shortly after incorporation or with outstanding debts — may warrant further due diligence. Always look at the full context of each appointment before drawing conclusions.

Can I trust a director with resigned appointments?

Resigned appointments simply mean the person has left a role at a particular company. This is entirely normal and happens for many reasons including retirement, restructuring, or starting new ventures. The presence of resigned appointments alone is not a red flag. Look at the nature of the departures (voluntary vs. dissolution) and the overall pattern of activity.
