How to check if a UK company is legitimate
Checking a UK company doesn't have to be complicated. By looking at a few key public records, you can quickly spot warning signs.
1. Check the Status
The first thing to look for is the company status. It should be Active. If you see "Dissolved", "Liquidation", or "Active - Proposal to Strike off", proceed with extreme caution.
2. Look at the Age
Scam companies are often short-lived. A company that has been trading for several years is generally more reliable than one incorporated last month.
3. Filing History
Legitimate companies file their accounts and confirmation statements on time. If a company has overdue filings, it suggests poor management or financial distress.
4. Directors
Who runs the company? Check if the directors have a history of successful ventures or if they are linked to many dissolved companies.
